If you were the leader of a technology-driven business,?

If you were the leader of a technology-driven business, would you look for blockbuster products or focus on incremental developments? What lessons can be learned in this regard from studying RCA and other companies from this period?

That question misses an option and you failed to mention the period. Also, this is an international forum, I have no idea what RCA does and makes. If you must post homework online, at least do it correctly.

I would turn it into a worker run factory, thereby my leadership is irrelevant and the question losses it's application.

You do know that there are other more reliable sources of information don't you? You obviously own a computer, find other websites. Read some on your own.

You must develop incremental technologies. RCA produced the vacuum tubes (so did Kenrad and GE) that were the precursor to the transistor. RCA was at the forefront of the development of the transistor, while others continued producing the vacuum tubes. Even into the early 1970's vacuum tubes were still being utilized in radios, TV's, and other electronic devices. At the same time the transistor was making headway. By the mid 70's, the vacuum tubes were not being used in new equipment. The transistor was being used in more elaborate electronic circuitry, enabling smaller and smaller devices. All the while, the need for even smaller transistors was becoming more evident. All a silicon chip amounts to is many small transistors working together. It took RCA, and others, about 30 years to go from a vacuum tube to a reliable silicon chip. Since that time, the chips have gotten smaller and more reliable, but nothing has taken their place. I'm certain that a replacement will happen, but it will be a slow development time period - baby steps is you will.

Now, don't take my word for it, do your own research!

Start simple and develop "money makers"...Even if it's something as simple as improving an already selling blockbuster.... Dump those profits into research and development... RCA (1919-1986) would be used as reference to how a company grew from being organized by General Electric to making the "Golden Age of Radio".
