I was there once (I was that kid a long time ago). For me it never got better. Just living a lonely, lonely life. However, it doesn't have to be that way for you!

why is a social life important to you ? I prefer having a true friend over having 100 friends who know nothing about me

Things change. If you're 19 I imagine you're in college now. Find things you enjoy and are good at. Then find groups that focus on said things. The trick is to start looking in new areas to meet people.

At 19 I was in a similar state, although I did have a couple of friends which helped tremendously. But I wasn't well-liked, I did poorly in college, I had no social skills, and I had a hard time at the crappy jobs I did. However, I got involved into activist politics, some friends met some friends, and I began to come out of my shell and learned social skills, got girlfriends, and all that. I'm now a pretty happy dude.

Well the trick is to just find stuff to do with new people. That's why I'm all about clubs and organizations. If you're into poetry, find a poetry club where people share poetry, learn to get better, go to slams, that sort of thing. Find your local college's club directory and just see what looks interesting.
