It depends, if I have somewhere to be in a certain time frame I will ask, otherwise I like the adventure and just drive around for fun. Also, sometimes I get lost on purpose so that I can learn more about the area. It is also a good way to stimulate your brain.

i use my tomtom. i love it. before that, i was good at using a map to figure out where i was. BUT if that didn't work, yes, i'd stop and ask for directions.
argggh, once a friend drove me around in circles for 3 hours and i finally begged her to stop at a rest stop and ask for directions. she said, ok, she would. when she got back to the car, she had only picked up another copy of the SAME map we already had!!! so i went in and got directions. we were only 20 minutes away from what we were looking for :[

My car is not so big that I'll get lost in it.

I normally just pick a car that looks like it knows where it's going then follow it.

If I'm in a hurry or headed for an appointment, I stop and ask quickly.
If there's some time to mess around, then I will usually explore a little bit until I figure out where I am. I seldom lose all sense of direction and can usually recapture my bearings if there's time.
