I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out today. Be truthful, how much pain am I going to be in?

A lot of people have said things to me like, "I'm not going to tell you any stories about it, I don't want to freak you out."
Well good job at making me feel secure about it!
Pain in the mouth is my weakness, how much will getting them taken out hurt?

Is This A Good Question? (3)

Depends on how you get done. But even sitting in the dentist chair isn't as bad as people make it sound. Just be careful after (dry socket sucks the big one) which means be very very careful about how you brush/clean mouth; I pretty much stayed away from food for about three days and thn just applesauce.

(swishing with warm salt water helps a lot- but again, be very careful about doing it)

I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled at the same time. I was only a little sore after it was over. (I have had mild headaches that were worse.)
I didn't even experience any gum bleeding.

I was knocked out for it, and had a very good dentist.

Depends on whether any of them are impacted! If so, it will be more painful, once you are fully awake. What ever you do, follow directions after, so that you don't develope dry socket.

I've had it done twice (2 the first time and 1 the second time). I had them knock me out for the extraction, so no pain there. to prevent dry socket and infection, I had to rinse with a peroxide solution for 4 months afterward. There was little pain and it was healed in 4 months. Had to eat soft foods (cream of wheat, soup, etc.) for 3 months.

If you've got a good dentist you shouldn't feel any pain. He'll give you some injectiong to numb your mouth. Maybe when the injection has worn off you may get slight pain which can be killed with pain killers but don't worry about it, it's only temporary.

I was in about zero pain when mine were removed. You can ask for prescription painkillers if necessary; I was given them without asking.

Swishing with saltwater was mentioned; that really helps the healing and also the shedding of stitches.

And make them WAIT for it to take effect... I hate dentists that shoot you up and don't wait for it to numb you.

Ask to be put to sleep and to double dose you with novacaine and then you will need some strong pain medication. I had mine took out 2 years ago and the pain gets worse when you get home and the numbness wears off. It is best to be asleep when they do it though...No lies!!!
