Cheating on a lover in a dream doesn't always have anything to do with the lover or your relationship. The problem with the way most people interpret dreams is how they take them literally rather than metaphorically. Also, the thing with dreams is that they usually stem from subconcious thoughts or things that you're currently going through or experiencing. Certain ways you may be feeling will come through in different ways, represented by the different places/people/things in your dream.

When you're avoiding someone in your dreams it usually means that there is something you're not facing in your every day life. Whether it's a certain conflict, or situation, or feeling. Your lover could just be the last person you thought of before you went to sleep, hence he was the character representing this.

As for the cheating part, when you're cheating on someone in a dream is usually because there's something going on in your life that you feel guilty about. Maybe you're cheating yourself out of something?

Believe it or not it could even stand as an affirmation of your commitment to him. Just a symbol of the intensity of your passion.

Think about what's going on in your waking life, even things not dealing directly with your relationship...See if any of that makes sense or fits together. If you're happy with him in your waking life, I'm fairly sure the dream doesn't reflect your relationship. :)
