I'm having a really hard time and hoping some advice regarding putting your pet down...please read the details below:
Our Sheltie dog is 13 years old. She was the runt of the litter and in the last year her health has really gone downhill. Just since this past summer, she has lost her hearing and most of her eyesight. In the last couple of weeks, her eating has slowed to a point to where she won't even eat her favourite treats, and I've tried everything. She is having problems with her balance now, she staggers alot when she walks and a few times, it's like her back legs have given out and her back end has gone down. She sleeps constantly now, all day and all night. A perfectly healthy Sheltie normally lives to be about 12 to 15 years old. I've silently been hoping she would just not wake up one morning. My husband and I are sure it's time to have her put down. She's my son's dog and has had her since he was 8 (he's 21 now) and I know this will break his heart (and mine too). How do you say the words to do it and tell your son and then go through with it? I just can't seem to do it.
