That is good advice. If someone is disapproving of you and you are conscious of being who you want to be, there is nothing you can do to appease them without compromising your character and integrity. The key is knowing who you are, what you stand for...that is where you will find fulfillment and happiness. There is a dynamic in your family that binds them... they are united in their belief that they are "OK" because they can point to you and say you aren't. That is what they stand for - and that is so sad and pathetic. You can replace your feelings of inadequacy in yourself with pity for them - they will never recognize it for what it is. They can continue to carry that as their flag of arrogance and superiority, and you can carry dignity, self-confidence, and integrity as yours.
