Resolved Question

I'm not bothered if people find my views on religion insulting. I think reality is important to state, agreed?

People keep saying my questions are offensive to believers. How? I am asking honest questions from a stance that is more reasonable and rational, should i be sorry for this? No, i don't think so. I am not insulting your person, i am insulting your flawed view of reality. If you had some good arguments, i'm sure you wouldn't be so annoyed.

While I happen to agree with your views on religion, I'm afraid I can't support the idea that its O.K. to pick other peoples beliefs apart. People build whole lives and base the raising of families on these belief sets. They can't all be right. Maybe every single one is wrong and something we can't begin to imagine is running the whole thing as a mobile over the top of its baby's cot.
But a human value I prize above most others is tolerance. That means keeping the laughing and insults to a minimum when it comes to basic values like faith, unless they do harm to others. Most religions carry some form of social justice as part of the underlying message. At least honour the intent of the values if you can't support the idea of an old guy in a white beard or a giant tortoise pulling the sun along and show a little restraint when treading on the beliefs of others. Lets be a good example for our leaders.

Religion is one of the most controversial topics in the world today- and the reality is, you either agree with/support it or you don't.

Obviously you don't and good luck to you. No one has the right to ram it down your throat, or anyone elses for that matter.

I say, igonore them. Let them believe in whatever it is they believe in, and keep asking whatever questions you want.

girlfriend i am with you.... you're not attacking anyone-- you're just pointing out how absurd this ludicrous concept is. i was listening to the only radio station that comes in at my job and some guy was talking about how wonderful it is to invite jesus in every night to have dinner with you. ok, well, maybe you know someone named "je-sus" (like hay-soos) and you like eating dinner with him. that is cool. but i suspect they mean the jesus that is in the bible and i would like to know what sort of substances one must ingest in order to think they are dining with someone who has been deceased for 2000 years if he even existed at all... sigh.

I think that as long as they are not openly out of order, you can say whatever you want.
Some believers think that questioning their religion is insulting, well that is not our problem, we can question it if we so desire......I don't think being rude is acceptable but curiosity is.

It has not much use to feel insulted by another persons view. So I am not. Unless someone attacks me with it, but discussing it or whatever.. is just fine!

What you see as reality though, is just your perspective on what is true. For another, there is another truth. That should also be fine. Your truth is not more important or true then their truth. (in my truth, that is :P) I believe that any thought about the truth, is just the ego-self creating an image of what is truth. Just to be able to grasp it. But an image is just an image.. it is not truth. In reality (as I believe it), the whole cannot be grasped by the mind on its own. So to me, it does not matter what a person believes.. it is all fine. All images to make the self feel like it understands what it is about.

Lol :) I wrote much more then I intended. But I felt like explaining why I do not mind.

I say put it all out there ... censorship is the real evil .. if all we had was one point of view allowable ... we'd still be living on the bronze-age (looking at you christians) ... only those with indefensible positions ever feel threatened and resort to censorship.

You would probably enjoy hearing a man named Pat Condell, he can be found on Myspace and has his own website, his views may be of interest to you, he makes 5-6 minute videos and posts them. Don't have a link but, google can help :)

I think that only God is real and all other things are mere shadows. I don't think your view is insulting, but I wish that you better rethink about your prejudice about a great branch of education. People who believe in God are not all ignorant, but they compose a great variety of thinking and learning persons.
Books about religions are easily accessible on the Internet like all other books. If you refuse to read them, I fear that you will regretfully wonder why God has deprived you from His boundless blessings.

All it proves it that YOUR spirit and MY spirit do not agree. From the truths I've studied about you can only choose one of two paths. Good or evil, so if you want to push your point until death then both you and I will find out which one of our God's was telling the truth.

I pray God finds you. :)

It's not like you're strapping them down and forcing them to read your questions.

Or are you? If so where's the vids?!

I don't go out of my way to pick apart someones beliefs...but when they put them out there...its fair game. My thoughts are that belief is a fine and good thing, but it should be kept within the believers if one doenst wnat it picked apart. So belief in the christian god, etc...for the christians...it works...but they should just keep it amoungst themselves. The moment they bring it into a public forum...they are trying to reach beyond their sphere of religious influence and it is fair game (and proper) to dissect their beliefs. Its the only way they will learn to keep that stuff within their own circles.

Hi sammylou4u
being forthright is honest and direct. That is the best way to discuss. This form of argument counterposes opposing views and for either one view to prevail entirely or a new synthesis to emerge. It is an honorable form but does tend to insult and divide - even polarize viewpoints.
Another form of argument is to seek common ground and explore differences in a gentle but equally forthright way. This tends not to insult or divide and can be more effective by examining all evidence rather than burying it.
I think you are a challenging and lively person - which I like. I agree reality is important to state yet I wonder what it is and so find stating it difficult. I am reluctant to dismiss the subjective experience of others yet I hate cant.
Yours is a fascinating and interesting trajectory!
:)

Everyone is entitled to state their opinion and I believe if you don't like the question don't answer it, it really is that simple. I've seen insulting questions about Atheists, but I don't participate and it really doesn't bother me, I'm an adult, I allow them their freedom of speech.

I agree with you.
It's one thing to say "Well my religious reality is different than yours" as some of these people are doing.

Unfortunately, they also say; "Well your non-religious reality is wrong, and we will try to force our beliefs on you in any way we can."

When the Mormon church sends money to California to interfere in civil marriage law-- that's not "one reality different from another." When anti-abortionists claim God told them it's a sin, they are trying to force their beliefs on everyone else.

here you are, *asking questions,* and OH WOES SHE'S PERSECUTING CHRISTIANS!

Because being asked to think is just the worst thing that can possibly happen to one of God's Lambs.
