I'm the BOSS' son, What shall I do? Shall I act under them or be over them?

I work for free because I'm the son anyway. I work with these people in the office. I don't know how to act; should I act like I'm the boss' son or should I put myself with them or just make friends with them. But, they keep calling me "sir." I told them not to; just call me by my name.

PS. I'm the company's president's son.

If you are a manager, whether you get paid or not, you can't be their buddy, too. You have to set boundaries.

If you are not their manager and if they do not report to you for any reason, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Put yourself WITH them. They will start to respect you more if they know that you are a hard worker as well, and don't play favorite's no matter how strong the desire is to do so! :)

Yeah, just tell them that you are one of God's children just like them, that'll end all conflict (ahem).
Thing is half of the chat at work revolves around slagging off work and the boss and anyone in a position of authority so tyou can never be in on that really. Not allowing them to call you sir is a good start. If you are doing the training same as them then just work hard and earn their respect, you are never going to be in the inner circle but you can make it clear to them that when you are in a position to see how the business works properly then you will be fair and you will know and respect the type of work they do. watch out for the ones that don't pull their weight, they will be the most likely to be challenging and will try and undermine you. this is the one area where you can show some authority. If you see that someone is slacking then you can give them a warning and this will show the others that they can not take the **** out of you. Equally, make it clear that you value the ones who work hard and don't critice someone if you don't know their job or what you are really talking about, this makes you look like a complete t*at. Ask your Dad how much authority you actually have, hiring and firing etc. If you are supposed to be in charge but don't actually have the authority to back this up, you're sunk!

That's a hard one. I suggest you don't "act". Just be yourself. When you let your guard down and be yourself, people around you will notice and respond in a positive way. Do you like the people you work with? Then hang with them. Spend less time worrying about what you should do and do what you feel is right. There probably will be some jerks at work that snub you because you are related to the boss but screw them...they are haters no matter what they do. Just be yourself and if you do befriend people, remember not to use anything against them that they might tell you as a friend. Be fair and be yourself...that's all you can do! Good luck.

Just tell them u r a new employee in the company and they are ur seniors...Accept the salary u get for ur work because u deserve them even if it just comes from ur dad's pocket...Treat family and company as two seperate entities..Learn the trade as any new employee would and yearn to improve urself as any normal employee..When ur dad wants to take over the company, just shift the gears and u will be surprised to know that u r in a better position now to handle and organise things since u have been in all levels of the company...U will know employee feedback as u have worked with them and what they expect from u ,also what will encourage them to work to their maxm potential..U will be knowing who and which group will be ideal to handover the different projects..And hell a lot..already its too long.!!

just act as the son of boss also and a friend a common man also for them actually when you act like boss's son no one can be so free with you so can you work easily but some people would say that you are very selfish but in another way if you tried to work like common man the other office members will come closer to you would make attachments leading expectataions may come across some decisions of company so do it as condition is required. all the best.

Work hard and try to be one of them. I played football in college and my dad was the coach. I tried to be one of the guys and fit in. It worked when a year later we were talking about what our fathers did for a living...when it came to me about a dozen guys were waiting for me to respond...I said What? My dad is coach Smitty....It took them a while to believe me. Be your own person and don't ride his coattails.

Act like whatever your title is. You don't have to flaunt your connection or be a jerk about it, but work hard and do your job. Being a good manager does not always mean being a good friend, though. It can be a really hard balancing act.

Just so we're clear about one thing. The actual boss of any firm/ organization are the stakeholders, not the company's founders. In this case, it would be the customers. They're the ones who pays the employees salaries, the company merely facilitates the money to the employees.

So i guess, that brings us to the question, my reply would be neither, but be at the similar level to them & your customers, and be ready to compromise where necessary. ;)
