It sounds like you're doing it right. I think you have to put the entire can in the microwave without opening it.
try preheating the oven. I had to do that for my pizza rolls tonight
o.k,heat oil,put a kernel in and it should pop fast.then temp is right and cover bottom of pan and put lid on and keep shaking pan.good eats.

try drying it out first. I think you can do that in the oven on a low temp... I was until this point unaware that canned corn could be popped....

Unless you are using a can that say Popcorn, it is the wrong corn. Place cup of popcorn in pan of oil and let it come to boil, with lid on top. After a minute or two shake pan, or pot, until corn start popping., After two minutes and no poping the popcorn is done. Serve hot and don't forget the butter.
