A sangria with a meal or something like that. They are really fruity, can't taste alcohol (if so, barely - it's mixed with wine), great with your dinner, not too strong, and come in a variety of flavors. When you're body isn't used to alcohol you will obviously feel it quicker/easier than others so keep that in mind. The great taste can lead to you drinking too many, too fast. You might be able to handle a couple/few without any problem, but if you drink it fast, give yourself at least a few minutes to see if you start feeling anything so you know how you want to pace yourself or whether you want anymore at all. If you don't drink it fast, you will probably know what the effects are by the time you're done so you can decide if you want another safely. I think you will love sangrias. If you end up liking them, they are easy to make at home too - and Much cheaper! Have fun! :-)

Michelle, knowing you as I do, I know you are careful and responsible.
I like "theoldgoat"'s idea. A "wine tasting" is a sensible night or afternoon out with your fiance you can both enjoy and learn what is good and what is not.
But those who tell you not to get carried away with it are not joking.
It is a known killer.
It is natural to want to be popular and loved. If I were a young fella,
how could I avoid eyes like yours? They could make me dizzy if they turned my way. Be you! If it ain't broke honey, don't fix it. There is certainly nothing broke with you!!Like (1)

I never really liked to drink but when I turned 21 someone suggested Vodka...it has no awful taste, and mixes well with just about anything...and when you get buzzed you have nice breath, too, in case you want to kiss someone!!!
Vodka has a lot going for it.........So I was drunk twice in my whole life; (I'm 70 now!) and figured it just wasn't worth it.....I threw up on the outside of my friend's car on the way home, and wanted to lie beneath a waterfall so I could get all the water I wanted!!!!!!!...........
so I would not want you to 'start' drinking your whole life thru; your health is MUCH too precious to fool with.........an occasional drink is OK, but please, don'te get into it bigtime!!!Like (1)

GLAD you are not going to be 'really drinking' and I agree that you should at least 'taste the stuff'..but I'd recommend Vodka with, say Coca Cola or even cranberry juice ( I think it's called a "Scarlett O'Hara).....you get that 'alcohol taste' but it's not so yucky like some liquors can be!!! have fun and be responsible!Like (1)

Stop being so judgmental people - if the gal wants to drink and wants to educate herself a bit more on that subject, stop trying to tell her not to try it. What she is doing is not illegal, not a bad idea, and sounds pretty responsible.
To answer the question - I think a good light dinner wine for a starter is a Moscato wine. It's sweeter, light, and easy to drink. It goes with everything too.
Happy birthday, best wishes, and do what you want. If you do not want to try a drink, then don't. If you do, then do it. Make sure you continue to be responsible with alcohol and arrange a ride home before you start drinking - it's always easier that wayLike (1)

I'd go with a Riesling. It's light, refreshing and fruity. Great in warmer weather. You could even have it with dessert.

A good starter is not to start at all. It doesn’t matter how many “professional” parties you go to, nor if everyone else is doing it (even your finance); your best bet is not to start. Drinking has a dark side that people either cover up or make jokes about! Please, don’t start.

Many people start out saying that. Alcohol is a sneaky, let it in once and it will start to take root (this isn’t so bad). Eventually it will become your master. I’ve seen many lives ruined by people who started out saying what you just did. PLEASE, PLEASE don’t start!!Like (1)

Got Milk? seriously... I would order a club soda with a twist ( Lime). This is what a lady should order in a professional setting and will keep you safe, alert and a professional in your meetings and parties. Have a wonderful time and be safe.

Then drink something nice like good Champagne. Don't drink really cheap stuff and don't do mixer drinks unless you are doing them yourself and you know what you're putting in it.Like (1)

Happy birthday, don't mix them too much, start with champagne for your birthday, then try out a drink one each time you are having alcohol, hangovers can be EVIL. Lots of water as well when you drink, keep hydrated.

i was introduced to alcoholic beverages at a very early age... culturally...my family made beer, wine, etc.
when i was growing up EVERYBODY smoked, and drank and it wasn't a big deal.
today things are viewed differently so you must choose wisely.
i suggest, if you want to experiment, to go to tasting events at wineries and brew houses. be sure to go with people you trust since you have no experience with drinking and it may hit you like a brick !
be realistic ! drinking is no better or worse than the drinker...if it changes your personality a great deal you may be better off with ginger ale !
good luck ! cheers ! be safe and sane !
