I don't understand the question. It's the issue of racism which is at the heart of this. I don't think people have taken to the streets suddenly because they had a rush of blood to the head.

You are referring to the Treyvon Martin case? I am concerned that the gun Laws that are in place in Florida give racists license to kill based on what they say they perceive as threatening. I am concerned that some people feel it is ok to kill people becuase you don't like them.

I know that the law isn't meant to be racist and with the way that society is today, no law is "allowed" to be specifically racist. I think we know that the poster is eluding to the fact that the murderer was thought to be racist (I didn't hear the latest recordings, but it seems that he wa uttering racial slurs). The law is being mis-used in this case and I invite the OP to correct me if I'm wrong, but as history has shown us, there would probably be immediate arrest if the shooter was black and the victim was white. I have heard people of all races say this

You don't remember the outcry over the Casey Anthony verdict?

I think it's the lack of justice in Florida that people are concerned about.

Plus, their laws are really screwed up.

You are absolutely right. It is beginning to look like they need some intervention with their legistaltion as well as their law enforcement.

Racial heck. Sounds like anyone could be shot just for saying what they think if someone feels it's being said in a threatening tone... Let alone if they have skittles in their hand!

Florida laws are percieved as racial, but i think they go way back to near civil war ways.

I think racism, the way that people 'think' because the way they were raised or experiences, is pretty hard to change. And none of us really have the time or energy to chip away at other people's preconceptions. I've tried. It's exhausting and people with issues are the least likely to even admit that they have issues. And truly that shooting could have happened with or without racism... approaching a stranger in the dark, especially if you are expecting trouble can be very scary, they may be innocent, crazy, or armed. But regardless of the reason for their fear, as long as people are scared, they are going to want to protect themselves. So as long as you have a law allowing people to arm themselves... and then actively place themselves in situations where they have to face their fears ... you are going to have casualties. Should Florida get rid of their law allowing concealed? Maybe - but it's sort of like the dream of just not having guns around so there would be no risk - it's so unlikely that perhaps we should think of better ways to fix underlying problems: poverty, disparity, crime, and fear.
