The rhyming slang, is just that, a rhyme, it doesn't mean that all Americans are viewed as actual septic-tanks or any other repository for faceal matter. Nobody really uses this sort of slang anyway anymore, unless they are not from London and/ or are between the ages of 45 and 60. It is sometimes pleasing to refer to 'fuc*ing septics', when the latest whitehouse incumbent announces their annual hit list of invadeable countries, but it's nothing personal.

You got it backwards .....Yank came first,..as in your very own history of "yankees and rebels",..as people were saying...The "septic tank" thing came after,.and is a seperate issue...
Really its pathetic if people get all touchy and reactive over nick-names...Especially if its people who invented and promoted words such as "mother f*****r....and Ars****e" etc....plus worse...
Anyway,...as an aussie...or "australian",...which has "alien" in it..(is that bad?)....i would easily slag off my fellow country-people if they did wrong stuff...
I would burn our flag if we became war-mongering fascists for no good reason...Irreverence is part of democracy and people power......

So yair,...to be a yank is not necessarily a bad thing...
