    Yes, I believe so ... it wouldn't be for everyone ... it's hard work and comes with its own challenges of course. I do know some who do - in the US, Spain, France, Australia and the UK. It's an interesting proposition ... not sure if it would be for me though .... but I guess if I had to, I'd make a damn good stab at it.

    There is an excellent one in Spain, for the life of me can not remember the name, but they have dug underground tunnels with incredible art decorating it. Now would visit, but not feeling the shared living, plus I do love a flushing toilet and they are not really environmentally friendly

    Oh Roger, my mum sort of did this, grew loads of fruit and veg in the garden, we hated eating it all we could think was "Where did the cats **** today :)" Silly kids, hey. This summer gonna try tomatoes and eat them. Yep great idea. Allotments pieces of land where people can grow their own are very popular over here. As long as I could live in my own home, but take my turn tending to the fruit/veg all for it.

    I think theres definite merits to living off the grid. theres ways round electricity and the like too

    it sounds nice but i prefer my life to be a bit easier. i do plant veg/herbs and I have an apple tree.
