Why do they call it freshmen? I know it's the first year but why do they call it that? We just call it first year

Best Answer

In the olden days freshmen (which includes women, actually) were required to do all kinds of crazy stuff, like wear beanies on their heads, special clothing, signs around their necks, etc., and were "hazed" or harrassed much of the year. At my university we all had to go out the first Saturday morning of the school year and climb a nearby mountain and put fresh paint on the huge letter "A" that stood for Arizona (University of). It was actually pretty fun even though we all died of thirst and got White paint all over ourselves.

None. But I get your drift. Parents paying for the education, while children who don't appreciate money that it costs are cutting class.
