What are the sentencing guidelines for this crime in your community? I think that the circumstances of the incident should be considered, but without knowing what the whole situation was, I would start out tending towards a more harsh sentence.

Hard to say, it depends on what the woman did to him , if she beat hell out of his kid or his pet for instance than I would say a much lesser sentence, if he just flipped out and started beating her than put him to death.

Probation is far too good for a jerk that would do anything like that. Jail time and payment of any expenses are the very least that he should get.
If it were up to me I would take a suggestion from a Charlie Daniels song "Take them bad boys out to the swamp, put em on their knees and tie em to a stump, then let snakes and the alligators do the rest" not the exact words but pretty close from Charlie's song "Simple Man " Harsh maybe? At LEAST the same as a combined attempted murder AND assault charge.
If the baby dies, then it should be 1st degree murder + assault.Like (1)

I always say "vengence is mine sayeth the Lord" but sometimes you would like to see these people get the punishment the same way they did to their victims. Let them see how it feels to have what they did to someone else done to them. Maybe a little extreme on my part, but you can't help but think it sometimes. So many of these people never get just punishment while the victim never recovers.

The person should be given jail time and should compensate her for pain and suffering.
I know the money wouldn't mean anything to me, but if I had to go to hospital or doctor to get checked, i wouldn't want to have to pay for the bill.Like (1)

Get the biggest, toughest guy in town and get him to beat the living **** out of him with the stock of a shotgun. Was the man the father of the unborn child? I sincerely hope the mother keeps well away from this man in future if he is. He doesn't deserve any contact with her or the child.
