The reason you are asking us, is that this guy is giving you some bad vibes....he's acting opposite of what he says...and your brain is trying to make sense of it...
If someone's words and actions don't match....go by their actions....Talk is cheap.

Don't bother trying to make sense of it....it will never make sense, but if you stick around this guy long enough, you'll start making up rationalizations, so that you feel okay staying in the relationship...

You deserve a much better person than the one you describe. He is immature, probably playing around, isn't honest with you. Tell the bum to take a hike. Find yourself someone who will be satisfied with you and you alone. If he has truly split from his other girlfriends, etc, then when they call or IM he should have nothing to hide. There are thousands out there who aren't like this guy. Again, throw him out before he hurts you.

It certainly sounds a bit suss. Either ask him to explain, or simply withdraw (if you can), if not, cut off. IMHO.
