No, alcohol is not my enemy, I am my enemy.

I stopped one day at a time. That was 8 years ago.

Yes Alcohol is my enemy, but it cleverly poses as my friend. I class myself as a recovering alcoholic, but I still drink occasionally.

When I'm stressed I still need the crutch that alcohol seems to provide.

I feel I'm winning the war, but there are more battles to come.

Yes. Alcohol is an old enemy of mine and we go way back. I've been sober for two months now taking it literally one day at a time.

No, I never have had a problem with alcohol....but my ex husband is a recovering "closet" alcoholic....My sister is a serious alcoholic....I worry about her....I pray that one day, she will get the courage to live one day at a time, without it.

Alcohol is the numbing elixir that hides your enemy...{{{{FEAR}}}} which is always lurking under pain, hurt, anger, resentment, guilt, sadness, anxiety, helplessness, hopelessness and every other negative emotion you can name....
When you witness that fear (no matter what it is disguised as) you reach for the elixer be that alcohol, drugs, sex, addictions to anything including work laziness boredom etc...

When you have removed that enemy the need for a numbing elixer is also removed then you can have a drink of alcohol for itself and social pleasure without wiping yourself out or drowning any pain etc....

alcohol isnt my enemy or a friend either... for me alcohol is more like a distant relative that only comes to visit me on holidays & rare special occasions and only stays for a little while b/c it has a LONG trip back in the morning... i used to drink alot more when i was younger & i stopped b/c i realized it was getting to be a problem and since i was so young i cut myself off from the people that bought it for me so it wasnt all that hard for me... good luck getting sober to you though if its a problem for you... try AA
