Is anyone here a Thomas Merton fan?

If so what is your fav. book by him and why?

I have 2 books written by him but I honestly have to say that he is sometimes difficult for me to understand. It could be because I was brought up protestant and am presently atheist...I admire people who can think to that depth. I think I should read his autobiography. Good question.

Nope, not a fan but I've read only one of his books, The Seven Storey Mountain. Yes, my expectations were high but in the end, I just didn't think it was good. I liked the Epilogue the most (kept a photocopy of it). Other than that, there were only two or three points in the entire book that came away with me. I didn't pursue his writings afterwards. If you recommend something, I'll keep it in mind.

No, I never cared for his spirituality, especially later in his life
