Is Christmas giving overrated, should we be giving to the less fortunate, instead of spending money on fads and trends?

I find it kind of sickening that the *only* time many people even think of seriously giving to less fortunate people is during the holidays. We shouldn't be letting holidays dictate how generous and charitable we feel towards the people we share this earth with.

Screw the less fortunate. My goal is to bring happiness to the people I love.

The struggle by some to commercialize Christmas has been going on for over 200 years. The struggle to make Christmas about peace, goodwill and charity has been going on for far longer. In the mid to late1600's the observance of Christmas was outlawed in Britain and New England. So Christmas has always been a tortured observance.
