    Necessity because the only way to let go of the past and to be healed from the pain of it is to forgive..

    You don't have to forgive, but it's good manners/polite to apologize for something.

    I don't think you can really compare generosity to forgiveness. It's not like giving great Christmas presents. And...I'm still not sure I understand how to define forgiveness.

    See, what I mean is that I am not capable of forgetting a "fault". I decide to forgive it and I call it forgiveness and perhaps tell the person I forgive them. Then hide it somewhere in my mind, telling myself it's done. But now and then I remember it and I am reminded of some of the negative feelings related to it. I'm not sure in my mind that is truly forgiveness. I suppose it's the closest I can come to it. That's why your question brought to mind that if one was truly magnanimous, the forgiveness would need to be complete. (sorry I'm over analyzing this but it made me stop and think)
