it may be because you have too many 'violin reflexes'... I started learning to play the guitar when I was 20 and I had hardly played the violin since the age of 16 so I could just 'reuse' enough of it (like the left hand technique) to help me learn while not trying to do a vibrato... it's not that hard to learn... and thanks to the frets, you can learn to play songs without even knowing what a note is... I had friends who started learning at the same time as me and who had never learned to play an instrument before and they were fine...

Violin is much harder because it doesn't have frets.

it depends how good you want to be. if you know other instruments, you can adapt your basic skills pretty quickly. i'm not a real guitar player, but i can sometimes fake it well enough that other people will listen to me.
if you want to play like buddy guy or doc watson, it will take natural talent and a lot of hard work

Not for me. I think drums would be the hardest if played well--you have to have both hands and both feet all doing different things at the same time. Next would be keyboards--both hands doing different things and possibly the feet involved too on pedals.

I play guitar and drums. I've never played trombone, but I would think that would be hard, because it's completely up to the player to hear the notes and move the slide precisely to hit them.

No, you have only a limited amount of options. Try a violin.
