No very uncommon. We as soldiers were taught to keep the lines of communication open with family and friends.

When I was in Vietnam I had a hard time writing home. I had no idea what to say, or that it even mattered to anyone. After about four months, my parents called the Red Cross to see if they could help. The Red Cross contacted my superiors. My sergeant let me know really quickly what my life was worth. I had to write every other day for about a month, sometimes in pretty rotten conditions. He never let me forget.

That depends on so many variables: Where is he deployed- sometimes the guys in the FOBs have it really tough as far as time and ease of communications. What is your relationship like? Are you family, gf, etc- and would he try to keep bad news from you?Have you been trying very hard to contact him? Mail does disappear, so if you're waiting for him to answer a letter, he may be waiting to GET a lettter. Keep trying and do contact his family or the Red Cross if you're totally worried. If its a relationship matter, he may just be trying to stay out of the way so you feel free to meet someone- but don't until you hear it from him directly!

It is NOT common. There's something going on with that person. Maybe they have met someone else and is involved in another relationship. The chance of this being the case is very likely. Military people will be with the person they are with regardless if there is someone waiting for them at home especially in a combat situation where human contact is essential. I'm sure you knew that this could happen. This person may or may not come back for you. There is no definitive outcome. If I were you I would write a letter and ask if there is still a relationship with them and if you don't get an answer then you need to move on.

It all depends.

Is he shipboard? If so mail in and out can be delayed formas much as a month.

Is he in a hot zone? It's hard to write or email when bullets are flying.

Are you the wife, girlfriend, mother, or father of the soldier? These people will come fist in contact order. Brothers, sisters, friends, cousins, and so on will be contacted as time allows.

Are you sending carepackages, e-mails, letters, and so on? Don't wait for your soldier to contact you first.

Are you in a foul mood when ever your soldier contacts you? There is enough going on in a soldiers day to day duty. If you act like witch, you are are a distraction. Worry over you can get a soldier in a hot zone killed.

Did you cheat, threat to cheat, or say you do not love, or say you never want to hear from your soldier again?

Have you changed address or e-mail?
