It is pretty common. Its usually written right into your employee contract. These positions are the hardest to govern and the easiest to abuse employee rights.

It's always been my experience that per-diem people are scheduled when needed... and when not needed, not scheduled... If you were scheduled.. and they changed the plan... they should have let you know.

Depends on company policy. Unfortunately, in this economy...the employer can do anything they want, and you'll stay, and you'll smile. Why? Because there is little left to do at this point. Sux, yes...it is what it is.

Its not good practice but is becoming common as employers tighten their belts in response to sluggish economic conditions. Check your t&c's carefully to see if they have to give you a notice period
