just put a foil on the rack so there won't be any drippings in the bottom of the oven, unless you want to clean it later
The danger is when all the stuff that runs off the ends of the pizza and fall to the bottom of the oven and begin to burn and fill the house with smoke.
Remember your training: Stay low.......
Especially if your hand is holding the pizza while it is cooking.
No room pizza is required to cook on just the oven rack!
It's probably not "dangerous" (life-threatening), but it is definitely ill-advised.

The cheap frozen pizzas say not to use a pan. It works, but it messes up your oven, and the drips burn and stink!
Use a pan, bake a little longer than the directions say.
I never use a pan when I cook my pizza!!!

The pizza that I get, the instructions says to not use a pizza pan when cooking.
It is fine to do that. But the more you do, the more stuff will build up in bottom of the oven. :-)
