It depends on where you went to school. I was taught to say onvelope.<br />

That was during the 70's. The same teachers also taught us French, so I guess the teachers were inclined to use the original pronunciation considering words like Envelope, Entrepreneur and Entourage were borrowed from French.

I think if it's a normal envelope like the ones in the mail, it's INvelope. But if it's one of those big yellow ones for important papers you shouldn't fold, it's ONvelope. Maybe it's just the dialect of where you are.
