Is it "normal" for a person to "change".... the way they dress, look, likes/dislikes, etc....?

A "friend" recently commented how I have changed... and they claim "it's not me"... I have changed up some of my clothing choices for the weekend ( collared shirts vs the old simple t-shirt), my looks ( pierced my septum recently... on a whim and a push), and instead of my old skate shoes for the weekend outings, I now have chosen my " Chuck Taylor's" sometimes... they say that "it's not me" and make it a point of contention...

Now if it wasn't me, would I not have done it?? They are failing to grasp that I ( as a person) have grown to a new level of quasi-sophistication....

I am a professional by choice career wise, but when I am outside of the work environment, I have chosen to go into a different level of personality... My musical choice has started to include EDM, ( total metal head here) which is again, a change... that they really don't like... yet they too have changed... but they think they are just how they used to be... and saying different would cause a fight.... literally....

It's called maturing, learning, etc., and it's totally normal. Unless it's caused by drugs or trauma.

Piercing to me is a form of self-therapy... I use it as a way of showing the world that I am ready to close a chapter (usually a relationship) and how it has changed me...

Every decade you are going to change, a LOT. In ten years, you are not going to be who you are now anymore than you are now what you were ten years ago.

LOL. Tell them to suck it. You like your new style.

The popular term is "Re-inventing yourself", and in this case, change is usually a good thing. Don't limit who you can be based on who you have been.
