For instance, if only the person had not went out so late, or possibly picked a different outfit that day? Are these feelings normal? Any ideas of what one should do to overcome these feelings/ terrors?

I am an abuse and rape survivor you are never at fault......you went even a person in the attack, you were a means to an end.....if the rapist was a stranger, if someone who knew you then it's about power and control, not actually sex.....either way, you did not do anything except exist in the right place right time for this action to occur. Believe this, you will move past this, you must grow past this, understand how important you are and seek counselling if you feel you need it......the sooner the better......I rarely ever think about the years of rape I survived and the strangers that have attract. You will surmount this if you forgive yourself first for any feelings of guilt and then eventually for give him for his inability to be more than a primal desire........bless you my friend.....be strong.
