Resolved Question

Is it OK for my friend who is 20 and in the university to date a 16 yr old high school boy?

Well, they've been just friends for about 6 months and she usually goes over to his place to spend the the weekend(he still lives with his parents,of course). So,she got back today from one of the weekly trips and said they decided to date last night. Even brought back cookies that his mum baked.I was shocked that she'd even considered it. yes,It is LEGAL in B.C.I later asked her if his mum knows they're now officially dating and she said NO and i wondered what the lady has going through her mind. You have a college girl who usually comes to spend her weekends in your home and you don't wonder what kind of friendship that is? She said the mum is very nice to her. No,they haven't had sex,YET. I know this would never happen in my home. My friend is really sweet n naive and would not be a bad influence watsoever on him.Him maybe. She's japanese and he's a native canadian.
In a couple of yrs time, this shouldn't be a big deal Say,20/24 or 34/30 but right now, everyone is just SHOCKED

Society would say not now, but in a few years it really wouldn't matter...

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Number one, isn't it illegal?? I don't know how it is in B.C. Still DEF NOT OKAY!! First of all, girls mature faster than boys do, so she's already ahead as it is. Too much of a difference. He's talking **** in the locker room about he's he doing whatever with, she's thinking of something a little more...permanent, for lack of a better term. Second, she's in college. Different set of priorities than a kid in high school. One's thinking about a career in the future, the other's thinking about partying in college. Uh...no. Third, I seriously doubt his parents would be okay with that; you have to take that into account.

Too unstable on too many counts. 20 is still young, but 16 year olds are just crazy. I TOTALLY discourage it.

I was 16 when I met my 36 year old husband he even paid for my highschool education. We have had 4 kids and have been happily married for 9 years but have been together for 12 years. If it is real love and he is mature they will face certain difficulties but they would much appreciate your support.

Why does everyone think that "dating" means "****ing". It said date not ****. o.O
..and actually I agree with Cosreal. What possible difference does it make what I think? Will they act differently because they've been judged on their age alone, by a panel of ignorant outsiders who don't know them?

In about 5 years or so it'll be fine 25/21. But 20/16 ? Kinda yicky.

wait a couple of years maybe , but age doesn't matter really , if your friend's not gonna be a bad influence to the the young guy why not and if the guy ain't gonna act like a baby then go for it :-)

Yeap, I agree with the above. It depends on the state they live, and of course, levels of maturity of both.

No, it is not okay....he needs a couple of years, before it isn't considered a crime, at least in my state.....Why would she be interested in such a young boy? Guys take way longer to mature, than us girls.....she'd be wasting her time, in my opinion.

The whole relationship sounds too weird...is she mature enough to be dating? Why is a 20yo-at college-hanging out with a 16yo high school boy and his parents? What is missing in her life? No, they shouldn't date.

As long as they are fine with potentially winding up on the sex offender list. It applies to anyone who messes with a minor.

It probably wouldn't go over very well, but it would be a lot better than if it were a 16 year old girl and a 20 year old guy.

Sex offender? Um not sure where you're at but 16 is ok in Texas, not considered a sex offense.

However, a four year gap is ok. On another note though it may not be good considering the mentality of the two involved. One being in high school and the other in college. Idealizations change from 18 to 24 years old a LOT. So basically it really just depends on the emotional and mental maturity of them both and if they can roll with the punches. I highly doubt it but it's happened before. :) So who's really to say?

I'm wondering why a 20 yr old woman would want to date a 16 yr old boy, seems kind of young.

It depends on the state whether it is statutory rape or a lesser offense, like contributing to the delinquency of a minor, but it would be illegal in most states.

Not while he's sixteen. Can you say rape?

If things go bad (like his parents find out how old she is) she could end up tagged as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
