I love women. so I use the word 'gay'. I despise the word 'lesbian' for personal reasons.

yes although most women would use the term lesbian, and gay is usually the term used by men. It is still the broader term that applies to both men and women. So I don't see why it should be a problem for a woman to use gay when it isn't exclusively used by men its just women found another word they approved of and use that far more often. Though I myself would say labels are kind of a bad thing and that you should determine for yourself who and what you are
