Is it ok to not be in any religion but still believe in god?

i don't claim to be in any religion but i do believe in god.. i just don't really believe all of the stories everyone says because they are all different.. n the stories who sound the same.. are of different religion.. i just think it's all confusing n i really don't see how anyone could really know what happend so long ago.. to be honest.. no disrespect.. but to me the bible could just be some stories people made up along the years.. u know like those rumors that go around school.. as it goes on.. people start adding stuff to it to make it sound better.. so bout time it comes back to u.. the story is different.. n now a days.. people who claim to be SOOOO religious.. seem to be braking all the rules.. all of the older people i came across who be preaching all the time.. be the ones who talk behind people's back.. cuss.. n judge people.. let me know what u think..

Certainly. In fact, i think it's even better. We all have our own individual defintions of our spirituality. We each create our own meaning of god. Yours is no worse, or better than anybody else's. There are no rules in life.

It's perfectly ok to not be any religion but still believe in god. Only you should decide on what you believe or not. Try not to let anyone make you feel bad or doubt what you truly believe in.

Yes - why not?

Religions are a trap (eventually), because they set out a "way of doing things" and urge you to keep to just that, thus setting up a limitation to one's expanding appreciation of truth.

That's actually called a theist and it's a belief, I don't think it's a religion. Yes, that is absolutely fine. But whatever you do, don't let people change your firm beliefs. Also if that's you in your avatar, your very gorgeous.

Absolutely! I do it. It's called being Theist. Sometimes you just don't need all of the accoutrements that come with a religion. Everyone should definitely question them, because some of them in some faiths make absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.

Oh, and I completely agree with you about people. My grandmother has a saying about religious people that goes something like, "The louder they holler, the closer you have to watch them." And she is a strong churchgoing believer herself.

About the New Testament , my questions are thus: Who really were Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Who were they working for? Why is the Jesus story necessarily not a novel?

Many of these texts could well have been literature. Like Aesop's Fables, good stories but with a moral. Just becasue most people were illiterate does not mean that they were dead serious all the time. Nor does it mean taht they were stupid or did not enjoy a good story.

I guess what I'm saying is that I cannot see how these itms could be proven with any accuracy 2000 years later. But at the same time, my own life's experience tells me that there is some sort of powerful, intelligent, benevolent higher force or power. I have no idea what form that takes, and I don't know how anyone can claim that they do. If God is all powerful, he could manifest himself in the form of my cat, right? Or in a plate of sphagetti...

God teaches mankind about His existence and His purpose for all human beings, through His Messengers Who are Founders of World Religions. Without learning His teachings, we have no clues for believing and worshipping Him.

you are not registered to a church or something, but you are in religion if you believe there is a god. it's nothing wrong with it, in fact i find it the most honest way to "please" god. not a show off in public, but a personal relation with your god. it doesn't require to go to a special building, to give money to a certain institution, to have a schedule to respect on when and where you have to worship you god.
my opinion on religion has nothing to do with your question, but just in case anyone wonders, i am atheist.

Yes, that's what Jesus did when he gave new rules to people.

It's definitely okay. That's exactly how it is with me. I know that there is a God, but I don't know the truth about all the stories from all the religions that are out there. Some could be true, but there's no way to know what is & what isn't. I belong to no religion & can't imagine that I ever will. I just choose to believe in an all-loving God & that is enough for me, whether it's enough for others or not.

You can do whatever you want darlin' so long as you aren't harming, who cares. To me, referring to a god is like talking about a queen or president. There are so many and each of us can follow or believe in a different one. In my house I happen to refer to myself as the god *giggles* being that Im' not religious. I'm not out to tell others what they can or cannot believe and I don't expect them to do that to me. So long as we are all spreading happy I'm good.

There are more and more people who are turned off to religion but they still believe in God. There are way too many different views in these churches and whichever one you attend, they want you to only believe as they do. It's worship of man and not of God.

I do believe in messages in the bible but I can understand why some people don't. It's because religious hypocrites have always taken what they want from the bible and twisted the words to try to control others with it. They also use it to judge other people when Jesus said that only God will judge us.

It depends on which god you are talking about. Some of them hate that :)

I sure hope so. I was raised as a strong Southern Baptist. i went to church on Sunday morning and evening, that to prayer meeting on Wednesday night. When I got to about 17, my feelings changed. I became more aware of the things that were being preached and how the congregation was reacting. At that time, my trust in religion began to decline, quickly at that. By the time I went off to college, I no longer attended church. However, while I had a lot of fun and was a classic sinner, I tried to treat people as I thought God would want - with respect and dignity.

A few years out of college ( I became a mechanical engineer), my childhood church burned and I did the engineering for the plumbing and heating/cooling for them for free, and oversaw the installation. These people were part of who I was, and I still cared for them, but in my heart, I felt that they mostly did not live as God would have planned. seeing things that went on during the construction of the new building reinforced by feelings of mistrust. I also came to believe that all God wanted was for me to continue living more as he would have wanted.

I was married in a church, have been to other weddings in churches, and been to some funerals in churches. My son, while he was in Boy Scouts, had his meetings in a church basement, and I was one of the leaders. I have been to less than six actual church services in the past 35 years, then it was to appease someone else.

I truly feel that I have led a life that God would have wanted. I help the poor, hungry, and oppressed. I do not gossip nor steal. I do have a little problem with the lust thing, I am a normal hetero male - but it goes no further. I do not pray regularly, but do strongly believe in the power of prayer.

So, for a more brief answer to your question - YES!

All that matters is that you believe in something.

OK or not OK is something you should ask your own conscience - there's no voting or democracy for what you truly feel in your soul, so it doesn't matter what others think. Since you know that you believe in God, don't you want to know GOD? This is what religious path is about. God Bless!

You may choose to believe in any fairy tale you choose. That does not mean your belief is correct.
