Is it okay for a 10yr old boy to call his mom's boyfriend dad when they've been dating for 3months?

He has his real dad that is fully commited.

My sons dad has been with his girlfriend for a whole 2 months now *sarcasm* and they are living together. She has a 12 year old son (who's dad is also involved with him) and yet her son still calls my ex"dad." Personall I find it weird. I don't understand it. I think my 13 year old son is very disturbed by it. I know I would SUPER FREAK if my son called the new girlfriend "mom." I would lose my usually well composed self and want some heads to roll..... *smiles and gags*

No. Completely inappropriate.

It is very confusing.

I´d understand a boy calling her mom´s boyfriend dad after a long committed relationship an no father in the picture.
But three months is a very short time plus he has his real dad in his life.

So, let´s be honest, not OK.
If the case were reversed, would you like your kid to call mom your ex husband´s new girl?

It's not okay at that point...sounds like the Mother has some explaining to do.

I think it's alright if that's what he's comfortable with. although it seems they might be close so it would be a harder separation if things didn't work out. But if he wants to and is completely fine with it, let him. Just make sure he doesn't get too attached.

I don't feel that it is appropriate because only a short amount of time has elapsed and he doesn't really know whether or not his mom will be dating that man for a long period of time. She could break up with him tomorrow and he would be devastated by the break-up.

If the boyfriend is encouraging this then it is definitely inappropriate because that boy has a father and the father is committed to his son even if he is seperated from the mom--the boyfriend shouldn't be looking to take over anyone's role since it has only been three months and he could be disrupting already present relationship between the boy and his father. It is completely and utterly imappropriate if the boyfriend is encouraging the boy to call him that...very creepy really. The boyfriend should gently correct the young man and tell him that he would rather be addressed either by his first name or as Mr. ________.

It depends how close the mom and her boyfriend are. some ppl date for a few months, get married, and last a lifetime together. some ppl date for a few years, and have a quick marriage that does not last. If they are in love and the step dad is overjoyed with the situation, then I think that's a wonderful idea....

depends how it feels. i never called my step dad "dad" even after 16 years with my mom. i accepted him in the family and his role as a "father" but he wasn't my dad. i can't call in-laws father or mother either. but each one with his own ways.

I think that the child can call their parents' love interests whatever strikes their fancy and feels right for them. My husband's daughter, when we married, said, "now that you're married what do you want me to call you?" I said, "whatever you want." so she just still calls me by my name!

No, it isn't. He must really be attached to and have connected with this man. And theres a possibility this man won't be there forever.

3 months is hardly a "long time." A long time should pass before such a title becomes appropriate. Even LIVING together 3 months would be a push, calling him "dad" so soon. Where is his real father? He's "dad."
