Resolved Question

Is it possible to "train yourself" to see things in better detail in your head, so you can draw, paint etc.?

For the artistic types in here... I'm one of those people who never get a clear "image" of what they remember, it's bits and pieces of pictures, like faded watercolors after rain, seeing through dirty glass, etc.

Is it possible to "train" your brain to "see" (imagine, visualize) in better detail? I'd *really* like to start drawing but I can't draw or paint when I have nothing to go on....

The meditation masters call it "Mindfulness". You can learn to see what is truly there - work on turning off the labels - it's the words we attach to things that cloud our real perception. Words come from the left side of our brains. The images you want to draw come from the right side. You can learn to use the right side more.

Check out a book called "Drawing On the Right Side of The Brain"

Yes, it is very possible. You can train yourself on many aspects of perception. In fact, we have our filters adjusted daily by things that we are sometimes unknowingly exposed to.

Sure it's possible, but your description of the bits and pieces through dirty glass sounds like a more appealing image to me. Try painting that!

Yes, there are many things you can do. Research books on visualization and you may find what you need there.

Yes...There is a book.. Drawing from the right side of the brain.

It helps you "switch" from right to left brain function.

Once you understand and prctice what you see WILL change. Later, the same process will help you with relationship issues that perhaps you have had some kind of issue with or about.

However, be prepared for the let down (of sorts) when and as your choices will also change. You can the keep it or go with this new found toy or analyzer.

In many ways, doing this changed my life.

Yes you can. The brain can work wonders if you really want it to. Try some simple things to start with. Try looking at something for just a moment. Then turn away and write down what you remember. then look back at it to see what you missed. Maybe even take a deck of cards lay them all out face down and try to match pairs. Flip them in pairs if they don't match flip them back over and try again. Try to look at things through a childs eye. You know when kids are up to 6 years old. Everything they see is new and exciting to them. Just watch them sometime and you'll see what I am talking about. I hope this helps some. Good Luck!!!!!
