It really isn't, but it just goes to show how much we value being entertained over being healed, rescued or taught...

heck no, the ones you stated save our lives, the celebs are entertainment, some are popular for being popular(sorry kim k) fire fighters and cops in san diego get way lower than reg people, i know one doc that went to 12 yrs plus intern and works at ready care ctr(for cuts and bruses) and makes 40k, drives a toyota corolla, nothing wrong with a corolla, but this guys schooling costs per year could have bought him a used jag, society has been goofed up, time for change, real change.

It's not fair, but that's the way of the world. They get to feel a sense of accomplishment for making a difference in the world, and celebrities get to make it rain cash.

What people often forget is that for every wealthy celebrity, there are even wealthier people who are paying them. Same is true for athletes. I think it's crazy that football pla<x>yers get paid millions to play a game. But, the franchise makes SO MUCH MONEY, that they can get away with being paid like that.<br />
<br />
The issue is that public feeds it. They just don't realize it. If people would boycott going to the stadiums, the pla<x>yers wouldn't be able to command as much money as they do. But... the stadiums can't hold all the fans that want to see the games, so the prices go up and up and up...<br />
<br />
People are willing to drop $15 on a 3D movie. I think it's nuts. But that just helps fuel the industry.<br />
<br />
So yeah, it's totally unbalanced... and beyond a complete collapse of the economy, I don't see how it'll ever change.

Bums in seats is the name of the game. The more bums you can attract just by having your name on the posters, the more somebody will pay you. It's about business, not fairness.

Seriously, celebrities are still very few, and I think most of you are just getting angry at those few that manage to make riches. Most artists don't get that kind of luck. Sure, comparing acting in a movie to saving lives from a burning building is stupid, but this question is just jealousy. There are WAY more firefighters, police people, teachers, etc than there are celebrities, so they naturally will get a smaller portion of the money pie. Also, it's easier to enter any one of those industries than be a celebrity. Celebrities tend to be eccentric though, so it's easy to hate them for their big paycheck. They still work, and if they don't work, they get replaced by someone newer and fresher just like everyone else. And one final point; art is very important. In the near future, it pales in comparison to saving lives or education, but art is what we leave behind. It's our culture and our legacy, and we wouldn't know half as much about the history of human kind without the art we left behind. <br />
Instead of hating on how rich some people are, work around it and support something else. If no one is watching, no one's getting paid.

It's a Hollywood numbers game. They get paid ba<x>sed on how well they sell seats in theaters or get viewers on television shows. Some actors get paid low, while others get paid high. Oscars also factor into it. But when Charlie Sheen complained he was only getting 2 million and episode, I didn't feel sorry for him.
