Is it really honest to blame the world's problems on religion?

After all, weren't Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Kim-Il-Sung, Fidel Castro and Vladimir Lenin sadistic, mass murdering atheists?

No. Because with all "the world's problems", the buck stops at someone deciding to pull the trigger. At that point, a person makes a decision ...and takes full responsibility for that decision.

Efforts to "blame something" are merely efforts to remove one's personal responsibility.

When you take the religion away from a religious self-righteous megalomaniac scumbag you get a secular self-righteous megalomaniac scumbag.

I think we can blame our sexual problems on it. Religion twists normal sexual function up.

Yes they were atheists, But they didn't murder in the name of atheism like many people do in the name of religion.

Thats semantics. It's like saying Black people weren't lynched in the South because they were Black. They were lynched because they weren't White. Same difference! The fact is that if you were a theist under any of these regimes you had to fear for your life because you were as good as dead :)

it's not dishonest if you believe it to be true...that's how honesty works. Besides...religion is pretty divisive, and few things more so....so if you're going to blame something other than human nature..it's as good as anything.

So telling a lie doesn't make it a lie so long as you believe wholeheartedly it's the truth? :)

when it comes to opinions..which is what you are referring to, it can't actually be a lie if you believe it to be true. You can however still be incorrect.

No, you're right, religion isn't the only cause of the world's problems. But Stalin, Castro and others who you mention weren't fighting in the name of atheism, really. It's religion itself and violent religious people bickering over it that has caused many more problems than bickering atheists have caused.
