Yes. It is also natural to spend it with multiple people. There is no rulebook. If there was, I wouldn't read it.

I believe that committing and devoting one's self to just one person for life is more of a choice than an inherent tendency.

There are studies that show humans are naturally serial monogamsits. That is, that we are meant to stay with one person long enough to carry a child to relative self sufficiency.

I can't help seeing though, how many people claim to be happy all their lives with THE ONE. That makes me think that maybe there's a place where science stops and something else begins.

For some people(like me!) it feels comfortable and natural.
Do you not spend much of your life living with your family through your childhood and teens? Did it feel unnatural?

my original answer was this:
apparently not for me...it's not like i haven't tried to, nature takes it course and things happen, people grow and change, and not always in the same direction.

I just wanted to add that i've been in a few long term (4 to 8 years) relationship in my my life and those are my only relationships... it just seems that when things get hard, or there's problems in the relationship people so easily want to turn tail and run as opposed to sticking it out and fighting the good fight... maybe my "picker" is broken but the men i have been involved with don't seem to have the fortitude to do this.

I think it can be. Honestly, though, I think people pair up before they are emotionally ready (because they're physically ready), and so they continue to change and grow. Often apart. Hence so many failed (and bad) relationships.

Yes. I know several people who have stayed married to the same person. My grandparents met when they were in their 20's and were together until my g-pa passed away. I have a friend up north who has been with the same woman since he was 18. They have been married for about 55 years now.

It can be done - but we need to put time and effort into our relationships.

I don't know about "natural", but I'm about to find it out for myself very soon...

I do not think it is natural for us anymore. It takes work, dedcation, and commetment to stay married to the same person for all your life (50+yrs of marriage). It is easier to stray than to stay loyal. But we are a intellegent race and can overcome our baser desires and do what we think is moral as opposed to gratifing our own lust.

With the abysmal divorce rate nowadays, that seems like a concept that has gone by the way of the wind.

I guess your answers will vary depending on people's beliefs. If you read some of my stories relating to twin flames.........as well as stories from other people in that group, you will find that there are some of us (my being one of them) that believes there is one person out there made specifically for and with us in mind. Our perfect compliment. And I have found mine.
The idea of life with anyone else is not a remote possibility. Its straight up inconcievable. Life won't ever be the same without them.

So in answering your question..........is it natural to spend your life with one person? Maybe. It might be equally as natural for people to spend their life with multiple people, but where is the fullfillment in that?

I really don't know. I haven't lived out my full life yet. Only been married to the same person for almost 30 years now, and still getting used to it. But maybe one day I can answer this question.
