No it is not that would be considered self defense which isn't illegal. As long as you didn't initiate it you would be fine although there would still be a detailed investigation into if it was really self defense.

If someone tries to kill you or a loved one, you have a right to defend yourself. Killing that attempted murderer(s) is moral. Murder is wrong only if you try or actually do kill one or more innocent people.

No its not, self defense is not murder...(this is not legal advice in any way) You can't even be tried for manslaughter if you kill someone in self defense of them trying to kill you; if you felt malicious intent from the other person to commit murder, you have a right to defend yourself by any means necessary and are not necessarily murdering anyone.
