Is it time to forego Affirmative Action in the USA now that we have a 'black' President?

At what point do we ensure our laws are equal for everyone no matter what race, creed, religion, gender, age, or sexual preference they happen to be? Doesn't the continuance of Affirmative Action simply enforce the concept of 'racism' in this country?

Everyone wants to claim equality in America, but no one wants to give up thier speacial place at the trough of handouts. We encourage racism by trying to overcompensate for it. The firemen of the town back east is a great example, simply because some men could not pass the test the test was thrown out. Who cares what color they were, except those who are the true racist. You should never have to dumb down anything for someone else to get ahead. Poor people no matter what race have the same obsticals, poor education, barely enough money to growup with let alone go to college on. So you have to work harder to get there, so work harder. I would rather have a great doctor who graduated at the top of his class, than a affirmative action doctor who barely graduated but got the postition because of thier race.

We should have left off a long time ago, and just accepted each other as equals. **** Racism.

It should never have started for any reason. Favoritism always backfires in every situation. Our own "black" President is considered less than qualified because he got into Columbia through "AA", overstepping 16 applicants more qualified than he. No one wants a cheater!

Affirmative Action should have been out the door years ago.

Don't get me wrong, it was totally necessary a few decades ago, but it's time to stop making allowances for minorities and women who simply don't make the cut. Or, if we have a system that could WORK, it should be based on socioeconomic status, not race or sex. As a woman -- a successful woman -- I am tired of hearing women complain that men hold them back. You want something, get off your butt and work for it. I'd tell minorities the same thing, except I would get labeled as a racist.
