If so, then you never really have loved anyone. As true love is knowing they are always with you despite distance and time.

no it's not true..none of us are ever alone unless that is what we choose. Choose a spiritual path (I don't believe it matters which one.. ) and you are never alone.. and you know it always.

Well, I don't think we will always be alone. But I also don't think you should rely on another person for your happiness.

I feel more alone as the years roll by, not lonely, but alone. People that seemed to matter have drifted away and I seem to spend more and more time on my own which I like. I like my own company more than anyone else's and like the fact that I can pick and choose who I want to spend time with. Being alone doesn't mean solitude for me, just space.

Absolutely not! Even if you do not know it, you'll not be alone.

Now, if your talking about toilet paper, and you've done your business, then look at the roll and nothing is on it, you will be alone. No help anywhere around.

In the end, in the beginning and the middle.

I don't think it means physically alone. It means that we are alone in our minds, regardless of whether we have people around or not.

I don't think so, people usually die surronded by family. Why is it such a big deal and so terrible to be alone anyway?

I think if you have inner peace you will never be alone

No. I was with my Mom through all the stages that led up to the end, and to the end itself. And, she seemed to have 'company' on the other side as well.

In some ways everyone is alone all the time - we all have our unique subjective experience, our bodies, our thoughts, feelings, our history. No one can fully join in our unique experience.

When my dad was in a nursing home close to death, a hospice-worker told me that often when a family is hovering around, holding vigil over their dying loved one, it is often when everyone just happens to slip out of the room to attend to something else that people slip away into death - like they are just waiting for a quiet moment to do so. Maybe we are alone at the end - but maybe we prefer it.

How depressing! Who's with me in fighting it?

Yes. We came into this world alone (with the help of others of course) and we will go out alone.

Yes - all we can rely on in the end is ourselves. When we face death we do so alone - even if we are surrounded by family and friends - we have to make that final passing on our own.

there are levels of "alone" - one can be alone with or without others. Being alone can be a choice or a curse, a thought or an existence. I choose not to be alone - I just need to find a way to fulfill my choice.....

In the moment of dying you are alone in yourself. Isn't that a good thing, though?

Not necessarily, it depends on your situation. Some people are married and remain so until either they die or their spouse does. It's true we are born into this world alone, unless you're a twin and most of the time we die on our own, but it is possible to have companionship until our end comes.
