Is it weird to buy an ex's son a gift, if you recently reconnected as friends and he's with his son's mother?
I told him I bought his son an outfit, and he was uncomfortable about it. This made me uncomfortable in return now, because I can't not give the gift now. It made me feel stupid :(

He's trying to rebuild his family. He's not sure yet where you fit in, so the gift may have felt a bit awkward. You don't sound stupid, so don't feel that way. You were trying to show good will. Your timing was off, that's all.

if you were close with the child then I don't think it's inappropriate. you break up with the person, not the child. the children are innocents. I think you should.
