Is it worth the risk to release a genetically created organism into our biosphere even if it promises good?

such as a micro-organism to convert CO2 into a non greenhouse gas.

nature has this equilibrium, and powerful ways to remedy things. people can't calculate the chain reaction changes they may start if they intervene in genetics and let the new breeds free out there. but they won't stop, it's part of "progress". the human need to change and change and change things, taking risks in order to make a difference, even if that difference may be not good after all.

Where do you think our modern crops and farm animals came from? They were all 'genetically' enginered by selective breeding! Come to that, where do you think the human race came from? Life is a series of genetic experiments!

I wonder what people would think if a genetically enginered organism was developed that stopped all forms of cancer in it's tracks!

Of course safeguards must be in place! But let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater!

It's not worth it.

There are many, more effective, alternatives for gmo's: e.g. better crop and grass management and using insects, bacteria and yeast to handle soil nutrition. But the people working the gmo business can't make a lot of money out of that.
Farming is a science, only the scientists don't ware lab coats.
