It depends on the friend. I have one friend that would say go for it. Others might be offended, and in that case, I wouldn't consider it. I also wouldn't consider it immediately after their relationship ended. It would have to be a *long* time later, and would have to be with their complete permission. I would not choose their ex-boyfriend or husband over them and the friendship.
