For me, I would be okay with my kids at home after college if they were working and saving money to get their own places. Paying for their own car insurance and taking care of their bills.

Not if your parents don't mind.

with the way the economy is now it's perfectly fine to still be living with mom and dad until you can move out on your own if you want to

A little hard to answer considering the recession that we are in. Normally, it should be that they are able to obtain employment, save up and then move out. But there are families who just like sticking together and paying the bills. There isn't anything really wrong living at your family's home, I mean there is also the insane college debt that has to be taken care of.

As long as u are not a "mommys boy"-do your own washing, keep room clean, pay bills etc. Me and my friend have a name for men who live at home till they get married or have a relationship-then expect their partner to take over the mummy role-which is so not cool. "man-boys".

Having lived through that ...It was great (mostly). I got a headstart for the first year with virtually no bills, rent utilities, etc....cool, cool, cool. Saved my dough, to later invest in property....sweet.
Cautionary...the Step dad got toxic and pushed the baby birds out...would have happened anyway, his motus operendi was....eggregious behavior....Do it but have an exit strategy. Besides, compare cultures globally and Americans seem to be ultra-fixated on the move out and help grow the economy thing....Do it Nike

Not if you're an asset to them. You should have a job and contribute to the household expenses and help as needed. You can save up for your own future plans too. If your intent is to be there when your parents become dependent then that's a good thing.

I love how you can see different cultures in the responses. It is in most parts of the world and through out history that families stay close together and there is nothing wrong with that. It is a judgment made by society in american culture that only losers do so and that is an immature and unrealistic attitude usually propagated by popular culture.

Yup in a recession or in times of scarcity it is actually practical. Any time as long as your not sponging due to laziness then theres nothing wrong with it. Before the recession it was on average children went back home three times before they were successful enough to be independent.

I couldn't find room mates that i wanted to live with so i moved in with my dad. Makes sense to me, hes honest, reliable, responsible and isn't going to screw me over.

I hope not! I graduated in December and moved back in with mine! Financial aid doesn't continue after college. :(

I don't think so.

Although I do think that the college graduate should been employed and saving for their own home. Also, contributing to the parents household would show some responsibility and consideration.
