    I wonder if your friend wants to be a friend or you have placed him in the "friend zone". If he is in the friend zone in your mind, he may have the idea that at some point he might not be, so he could be just waiting for things to change. You may want to explore this option before you decide what to do. Your husband to be might be picking up on this.
