Resolved Question

Is it wrong?

You have a friend over for lets say a coffee and you are serving cookies and the kids join in but your friend's son starts to stray from the table with this very messy cookie. Is it okay to ask the child to please eat at the table if his mom doesn't say anything to him? I'm asking because I don't allow my kids to eat anywhere but at the table and I want them to have those same manners when we go visiting at a friend's home.

I don't think it's wrong. Your house means your rules. : )

That is fine. You aren't trying to "parent" the kid, you are just trying to keep your house clean.

It isn't wrong... you can just say "hon can you please eat that in here please, I just don't want the mess to wander anywhere else". I think telling the kid to sit down at the table would be slightly bossy and harsh.

It's your house and the other parent should respect that. I think it's fine. Infact I have done a very similar thing in the past.

Well i have done that myself, if someone brings thier child to my house, i would have no qualms about telling that child what stands in my house as i have two children and what goes for them goes for everyone else, whether the parent agrees with me or not.

So yes you are totally right!

I think its the way you say it. Say it in a nice polite tone and the mom should also help you out with it.
