Is kindness fleeting or a life long trait?

I knew two people growing up who were violent, disobedient, thieving kids, who got expelled from school, but who ended up being some of the kindest people I know. I also work with two guys from South America, tattooed all over, that were part of violent gangs when they were younger, but who are now almost excessively kind. I think most people yearn to be good, but circumstances of poverty and abuse, and peer pressure, can tempt people to evil. Give people a leg up and they'll generally prove to be decent.
I should also mention that all four of the above stories involve conversions to Christianity. I'm not quite sure if that makes up for the Dark Ages and the Counter Reformation, but... it's cool I guess?Like (2)
