Very low sugar - 40 or less - can lead to coma and death if not acted on. We call this acute trauma. Normal is 80 - 120 mg/deciliter. Chronic low is rare but my physicians says nerve damage can occur.
High blood sugar - 200, 300, 400, 500 - chronically will lead to amputation, not low sugar. Macular degeneration [eye trouble] and kidney failure are also common, but only after years of non-control. Acutely it can also lead to coma and death but we're talking over 600, which is astoundingly high and also rare.
My knowledge is experience and medical advice, not guessing. I've controlled my diabetes over 15 years now with the help of the best hospitals in the world - Boston Hospitals, it's been as low as 60 and over 500, but not often.

Yes; someone with blood sugar too low can faint or even die; this is why most first aid kits have a piece of candy in them.
