Well, I would say that art in general is a good universal language for people. Music falls into this category, but I wouldn't say that it is THE universal language. But, personally I LOVE Simon and Garfunkel, their music really speaks to me, and I would say that their songs are probably one the best examples of universal themes. I also really like The Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, and Sonic Youth, although I don't think that their songs or themes are nearly as universal.

All of it! Read the song of solomon in the bible aka the song of songs! That is what makes a true musician! It doesn't matter what part of the world it happens it happens to people of all ages, races and it's human nature plus what I believe also decoy's and entrapment. If insanity is when someone does the same thing over and over again and expects a different outcome well musicians figured out a way to vye for the ones they love by seeking another outlet.

Music is the the second, most pure abstract form of expression next to thought.

written music is readable by any trained musician around the world regardless of language. The text of music is symbolism. Listening to music will invoke an emotional response in any listener of any country.

As a musician I have experienced this first hand. Its pretty awesome when you stop to listen and think about what is occurring.

Also music is an art form that is performed and enjoyed in real time.

My personal favorite is Jazz.

I'd agree that art, not just music, is the universal language of the world - as it crosses the language barrier and can express itself without need for words.

I'd say Ska music speaks to me the most, along with a few select songs from other bands/singers/musicians. But broadly speaking, I'll go with Ska.
