Religions shouldn't be discussed in any great detail until the child is able to understand and assess.

Of course. No child comes to Jesus or Muhammad or whoever on their own out of the blue. Beliefs like that must be taught and told and reinforced. Otherwise folks tend to turn away from such as that's how all of us started, atheists.

No - it's indoctrination, and indoctrination is abuse.

This is one of the most difficult questions to answer conclusively because it encompasses so many different forces at work, namely culture, education, politics, psychology and philosophy and I'm out of my depth to give a conclusive answer.
What I find interesting though is some people who critize say christian endoctrination won't critize say buddhist endoctrination. Strange.
What I'm certainly in favour of is a full education where the child is taught science, mathematics, literature and language from many sources and philosophys and if a child is denied this because a parent feels for instance that evolution is false then that in my view is wholely wrong. To deny a child critical thinking skills and the ability to reason and rationalize because you fear that would turn them from the fear of your loving god can be deemed by some to be cruel. To bring up a child in an environment where the child knows that your faith means alot to you and that they are invited to join you or leave you in that faith seems a much more reasonable way to do things. Though what troubles me about my own view is that it weakens in the face of "culture."
So
as i've stated a very difficult question to answer conclusively.Like (1)

Yes, of course it is indoctrination.

Frankly, there are many adults who lack the capacity for critical thought.

Is raising children in an atheist family just a form of anti-religious indoctrination?

In the end we see that people when they reach a certain age they come to their own conclusions about God. So this "indoctrination" as we call it is not the mental straight jacket the word implies.Like (1)
