It's a fun challenge for a healthy mind and a terrible trap for a weak one.
It's good of course.
like so many things it depends on how you apply it....
if you take solace from the concepts and the kindred spirits you're probably in the green...
...if you take everything litteral and start hurting yourself and the people around you you are in trouble...
of course religion is good for mental health :)
A person could use religion to keep their minds peaceful and balanced or they could use religion to con people.
Religion is not universally and correctly defined.
I know and see with my own experience that the
teachings of Buddha, Christ, Baha'u'llah....
sincerely and loyally practiced are good for each
and all human beings on all aspects.
Among believers of various religions, there are all
sorts of people like among the non-believers: good
and bad, healthy and unhealthy, positive and negative...
Now is the time we can converse and exchange views
to get back to the essence of true religion revealed
by the One True God for the well-being of all mankind.
This is possible thanks to the maturity of the human race
and the interactivity of the Internet.
Generall I would say good, but could be bad bad, it depends on the health of the mind and how they use it...
Beleiving in religion can be good for your sole even if it is a big fairytale.
If it's all consumings, dangerous good rule of thumb is... to avoid the ones that gyrate on the floor speaking in tongues, dinking strychnine and handling snakes.
If I said god speaks to me I'd be sectioned under the mental health act but all those church goers who speak to god are kefir alone who's the mental one ????
It is good, but even good things can be harmful if used wrongly.
I did just read that feeling spiritual without being conventionally religious is bad (on account of feeling there's something more, but not having the comfort of an explanation for it). And I guess believing in an afterlife makes coping with death easier. But squaring the unfairness of the world with God's love must be tough. :/ (That's what eventually drove me into the welcoming arms of Atheism, anyway.)
bad, very very bad
It's neither good or bad.
I can't wait to see the, "religious people are mentally lazy/dumb/weak etc.," responses.
Depends on the religion. Sacrificing chicken as a religious thing...probably bad.
It was the first thing that came to mind.
